“HERBAL MUTUAL AID APOTHECARY

After years of operating a community apothecary in Humboldt Park, we are carrying that work beyond four walls and cross-pollinating community through a new mobile model rooted in mutual aid, healing justice, collective care + land stewardship.

We believe accessible herbal care, knowledge, nourishment, and community wellness are collective rights.

Our ancestors carried seeds, remedies, stories, and healing knowledge through generations of displacement and change. This initiative honors those traditions by making medicine together and sharing it in community.

We believe in our connective wellbeing.

BUILDING A COMMUNITY CARE INFRASTRUCTURE

We are co-creating a community herbal ecosystem with three interconnected branches:

  1. Mutual Aid Herbal Access

    - (EXPANDING DISTRIBUTION SITES ACROSS CHICAGO)

  2. Community Medicine Making

    - (REMEDIOS)

  3. Collective Stewarding + Cultural Education

    - (THROUGH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS)

:

Our Summer/Fall first initiative will offer:

  • Pre-packaged remedies for accessibility and safety

  • Resource + Preparedness Cards

Our distribution sites so far:

HUMBOLDT PARK

  • Patchwork Farms - a community farm offering sustainable and regenerative food practices, workshops, + pop ups, which also hosts farm stand days selling fresh produce. Patchwork houses The Love Fridge offering free food, and will now have an herbal mutual aid apothecary station

  • San Lucas Church- A community staple supporting our houseless neighbors, and low income community through serving free hot meals, offering CEDA assistance & community thrift.

  • Casa Hernandez Community Space & Free Store - which offers free clothing, food, and mutual aid, supporting our low-income community, immigrants, caregivers + elders

ENGLEWOOD VILLAGE

  • Sistas in the Village - a community farm, reclaiming farming as a source of cultural pride and spiritual resilience. They sell and donate the food grown, they also host workshops, story circles for community members of all ages… In partnership with Dr. Sharmain Siddiqi, they started a community apothecary, Sister Apothecary, with free plant medicine for neighbors. The model is take what you need, leave what you can, sharing the knowledge of the medicines that are all around us.

We are looking to raise funds or in kind donations to make this initiative impactful, with a strong foundation of collective support. You can find our budget breakdown HERE
